Review: Human Eye — “Into Unknown”

Let’s be honest. When I sat down to check this album out, I was worried. I was like, Oh, here’s another one of these common, indie-flavored records that I’ve heard before…

Then I actually spent the next half hour or so listening. What I found was actually quite a treat—as the record progressed, I got samples of psychedelic key effects, vigorous, caffeinated drumming, and some sludgy, storytelling delight.

Be careful of pre-conceived notions!

This is Human Eye’s fifth album. A follow-up to 2011’s Poison Frog People, it sees the band returning to a label, Memphis, Tennessee’s Goner Records (which doubles as a record store). The signing does not change the band, as the quartet remains true to the fury that makes them popular with their psych-rock fans. Perhaps even more furious.

Into Unknown is expected to be released on April 30th.

My Favorite Tracks

  • “Faces in the Shadows”

Ambitious drumming and hints of a blues-tinged guitar make this track a winner.

  • “Outlaw Lone Wolf”

This track departs a bit from the rest of the album — a longer, story-telling type track.

Human Eye can be requested for WRST’s Shuffle Shift, on weekdays, from 7- 9pm to Midnight, by calling us at (920) 424-3113.

Yours truly,

N.M. Giebink

Assistant Music Director

  1. This is HUMAN EYE’s forth studio album. And the last album was called “They came from the sky.” Released in 2011. “Poison Frog People” was a limited edition tour C.D. From 2009 or 10. They also have a Live LP on “Third man Rec.” released in 2012. A total of 4 studio albums and one Live. Hence the name- 4: “INTO UNKNOWN”
